Omnicom Expands Omnicom University's Advanced Management Program to Asia Pacific

SHANGHAI, China, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Omnicom Group Inc. ("Omnicom") (NYSE: OMC), the leading global advertising and marketing services group, expanded its Omnicom University Advanced Management Program (AMP) to Asia by holding its first executive leadership development program in Shanghai, China. The four-day program, which gathered more than 50 future leaders of Omnicom companies working in the Asia Pacific, U.S., and Europe, was held at the China Europe International Business School.

Omnicom University is Omnicom's in-house global leadership development faculty. It forms the core of Omnicom's commitment to attract, retain and motivate talent. Created in 1995 by Tom Watson, Vice Chairman Emeritus of Omnicom Group, in conjunction with then Harvard Business School professor Len Schlesinger, Omnicom University is regarded as one of the world's foremost executive education experiences. Traditionally taught at the Babson Executive Conference Center in Wellesley, Massachusetts, the program was extended to Vevey, Switzerland in 2005.

"The ability to attract the best people and to nurture and retain them is a key priority for us as we continue to grow our business in Asia Pacific," commented Michael Birkin, Omnicom's Vice Chairman and Chairman and CEO Asia Pacific. "Our decision to bring Omnicom University to China reflects our strong belief that providing very talented people with advanced opportunities to learn and develop is critical to our success in this region."

"The Omnicom University Advanced Management Program, a unique initiative in our industry, clearly demonstrates Omnicom's global commitment to the professional development of our executives. This focus on attracting, retaining and developing the best talent is particularly important in a region where localization is essential to sustain the significant growth our agencies are experiencing" added Serge Dumont, Omnicom Senior Vice President and President Asia Pacific. "Given the strategic importance of Asia and China to our clients and to our agencies, we are truly excited to host this prestigious program for the first time in Asia Pacific."

"After 13 years and the completion of the program by more than 1,000 executives, Omnicom University has promoted positive change throughout the Omnicom network," said Tom Watson, founder and Dean of Omnicom University. "Our core teaching concept, the Service Profit Chain, has created a common culture and values throughout the organization. Many of our senior managers consider Omnicom University 'the best educational experience of their career.'"

The primary content for Omnicom University Advanced Management Program is centered on case studies that relate to issues facing Omnicom companies in a highly competitive and fast changing global market. Some of the curriculum features case studies written about situations that have challenged managers of Omnicom companies and their clients; other cases come from Harvard Business School.

Omnicom University courses are for a major component of the Omnicom network. In addition to the intellectual rewards of the programs, participants form personal connections that have yielded significant intangible benefits (i.e., improved collaboration and cultural links) and tangible benefits (e.g., talent retention and business development) for individuals and their companies.
