RALEIGH, NC, Nov. 17, 2015 – Capstrat, an integrated communications agency based in Raleigh, NC, today announced that Karen Albritton, currently President, will assume the role of CEO/President, effective Jan. 1, 2016. Ken Eudy, founder and current CEO, will become chairman. Given the firm’s growth, these new roles are designed to broaden and strengthen the top management structure at Capstrat. Capstrat is part of Ketchum, a leading global communications firm with operations in more than 70 countries across six continents.
In her new role, Albritton will assume responsibility for agency strategy, operations and financial performance. Eudy will continue to focus on and provide senior counsel to clients and contribute to agency strategy as part of the Capstrat Executive Team.
“Karen is the ideal person to be appointed CEO at this important stage in Capstrat's evolution. Having both Ken and Karen continue in their leadership roles is a great thing for Capstrat and its clients,” said Rob Flaherty, president and CEO of Ketchum.
Barri Rafferty, Ketchum’s North America CEO, added, “Karen’s leadership over the last 15 years at Capstrat has been a driving force in growing the company. Her fierce commitment to nurturing the agency’s talent and long-term client relationships will lead to greater success not only in the near term, but also in the long term.”
Albritton joined Capstrat in 2000 and was appointed president in 2007. Prior to joining Capstrat, she served as managing director at FGI marketing and as vice president and associate media director at McKinney+Silver. Her background in media, coupled with her experience championing innovation and integration in social, digital and analytics at Capstrat, position her to lead for the opportunities ahead.
“I’m honored to assume the role of CEO of Capstrat. My main objective is to build on the foundation Ken and our leadership team have established,” said Albritton. “Capstrat is an agency built on opportunities – opportunities to do important work that matters for our clients and opportunities where dedicated people have the chance to do the best work of their career. I’m excited to continue working with our team to help our clients tell their stories with power and persuasion to the audiences that matter most.”
“It is a great time for Karen to take on the chief executive’s job,” Eudy said. “She’s well prepared, she knows our clients and our strengths. I look forward to supporting Karen in her new role and watching her successes.”
Eudy co-founded Capstrat in 1994. Prior to founding the agency, he served as executive director of the North Carolina Democratic Party. Eudy spent six years as a TV news correspondent for stations in Raleigh and Charlotte and six years as chief political writer for The Charlotte Observer, North Carolina's largest newspaper. In 2002, he was inducted into the North Carolina Public Relations Hall of Fame. Eudy counsels clients in many industry sectors, including healthcare, energy and higher education.
“I first worked with Ken when he joined the board of The PR Council,” said Ray Kotcher, Senior Partner and Chairman of Ketchum. “I learned early on that Ken is a master of his craft. He has built Capstrat to be an agency that helps clients solve complex business challenges, and he has invested his time and expertise in cultivating top talent. I know Ken will continue to provide immense contributions to the agency and the industry as he takes on his new role as chairman.”
